Using Role Play to Enhance Speaking Skills among Secondary School Students: A Case Study at an English Centre
      Hoa, Nguyen Thi
Abstract: Mention the abstract for the article. An abstract is a brief As English continues to serve as a global lingua franca, developing communicative competence, particularly, speaking skills, has become a priority in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education. However, many Vietnamese secondary students, especially in non-formal learning environments, struggle with oral communication due to limited exposure to authentic language use and learner-centered instruction. This study investigates the effectiveness of role-playing activities in enhancing the English-speaking skills of secondary school students in a private English centre in northern Vietnam. Employing a two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, the study involved 27 students aged 12 to 14, who participated in role play tasks over a twelve-week period. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention speaking tests and semi-structured interviews with students and the class teacher.

Abstract: Calciphylaxis is a rare but severe vascular disorder that disproportionately affects patients undergoing dialysis. In this retrospective study, we used the TriNetX research network to assess the prevalence of calciphylaxis among adult dialysis patients in the United States from 2020 to 2024. Patients were identified using ICD-10 code Z49 for dialysis and E83.59 for calciphylaxis. Overall, prevalence increased steadily over the five-year period, rising from 0.62% in 2020 to 0.94% in 2024. Stratified analyses revealed that prevalence was consistently higher in female patients compared to males, and Black and White patients exhibited greater prevalence than Asian patients throughout the study period. These findings highlight an increasing burden of calciphylaxis in the dialysis population and underscore sex- and race-based disparities that warrant further investigation to inform prevention and early detection efforts.

Abstract: This contribution explores knowledge as an embodied, relational, and situated phenomenon, through the lens of sociomaterial, posthumanist, and post-dualist theories. Moving beyond dichotomies such as mind/body, subject/object, and internal/external, it proposes an ecological and transformative pedagogy that values vulnerability, affectivity, and materiality in knowledge processes.

Abstract: In an increasingly competitive and media-driven marketplace, advertising serves not only as a tool for product promotion but also as a site of cultural and ideological expression. In Vietnam, domestic brands like Vietnam Dairy Products Joint Stock Company (Vinamilk) have emerged as powerful communicators of national values and consumer trust.

Abstract: Homology theory, particularly in the context of A_∞- and L_∞-algebras, has witnessed significant progress with far-reaching implications in modern mathematics and theoretical physics. A_∞-algebras, which are homotopy-invariant versions of associative algebras, play a crucial role in exploring complex topological structures and their categorical aspects.

Abstract: The Basic Proportionality Theorem (BPT), a fundamental principle in geometry, traditionally uses all three vertices of a triangle to explain the proportional division of sides by a line drawn parallel to one side. This paper explores an alternative interpretation that begins the reasoning process from only one vertex—intentionally omitting reference to the other two. This novel approach promotes a conceptual and intuitive understanding of proportionality, emphasizing visual geometry over symbolic labeling. Such a reinterpretation holds potential in simplifying geometric learning and deepening spatial reasoning.

Abstract: The Art Nouveau movement in Hungary was about the rebirth of Hungarian art and design culture. Due to constant foreign-imposed monarchies and their influence on art and architecture, Hungarians had lost their sense of identity in the realms of art and architecture. The need and demand for a "Hungarian National Style" had become increasingly prominent. To fulfill this desire, artists and architects, along with the Zsolnay ceramic factory, collaborated and worked on creating a "Hungarian National Style" and "Hungarian folk motifs." In the early 19th century, European educators were already learning and teaching Arabesque designs. Ödön Lechner was the first architect to look towards the East for guidance in the search for a Hungarian style, under the false belief that the Hungarian tribes had Eastern roots.

Abstract: Background: Despite the implementation of the Comprehensive Newborn Care Protocol (CNCP) in Kenya to standardize neonatal care, adherence by healthcare providers remains inconsistent, particularly at County Referral Hospitals. This contributes to preventable neonatal morbidity and mortality, with Kenya recording a neonatal mortality rate of 21 deaths per 1,000 live births. Variability in CNCP adherence is attributed to gaps in provider knowledge, clinical competency, and systemic barriers such as inadequate training, limited mentorship, and resource constraints.

Abstract: The increasing use of synthetic dyes in various industries results in significant environmental pollution, particularly concerning wastewater effluent that is often resistant to conventional biological treatment methods. Biosorption utilizing agricultural waste materials, such as rice husk, presents a promising, sustainable, and cost-effective alternative for dye removal from aqueous solutions. However, the inherent heterogeneity and complex structure of natural adsorbents lead to highly nonlinear adsorption behavior that is challenging for traditional kinetic and isotherm models based on simplified assumptions to accurately predict.

Abstract: Viral load suppression among children living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is critical to sustaining quality of life, preventing treatment failure, achieving optimal ART outcomes, and preventing the transmission of multi-drug-resistant virus later in life. Children aged 0 - 14 years are disproportionately more affected by poor viral load suppression than adolescents, suggesting that this age group requires specific attention. This study sought to determine the clinical factors affecting viral load suppression in pediatric HIV and AIDS care in Meru County Referral Hospital.

Abstract: There has been a growing concern in Kenya over the high number of collapsing buildings with Nairobi and Kiambu counties recording the highest number of collapsing buildings. The collapse of buildings often results into loss of lives of the occupants and casual workers. It also leads to massive loss of investment for the government and investors involved in the construction industry. Collapsing buildings impacts negatively on the national development agenda and in Sustainable Development Goals on provision of safe and affordable housing.

Abstract: In this work we have focused particularly on the province of North Kivu particularly the city of Beni by dealing with three situations in particular: the fire in the home, attack of bandits and health problems. During these situations the victim proves anxiety that makes it difficult to easily alert an appropriate service for rapid intervention. It should be noted that the population does not have enough effective means to alert and rescue teams have difficulty locating the victim accurately and in a short time. This is how we set the objective of allowing rapid and precise intervention in the event of distress on the part of the population but also to make available to the population a simple way to alert the emergency services in real time and in an easy way.
