Far-Side Airbags: Current Technology, Performance Evaluation, and Future Trends
Rakshit Gummaraju, Ganesh Shete, Sachin Ratnaparkhi
Abstract: Far-side impacts, where occupants are positioned on the non-struck side of the vehicle, represent approximately 35% of all side impact injuries. This comprehensive review examines far-side airbag (FSAB) technology, analyzing impact physics, current architecture (seat-back and center-mounted systems), and performance evaluation methodologies. Statistical evidence demonstrates that far-side occupants face significant lateral excursion (475-575 mm without FSAB) and belt slip-off phenomena, leading to severe head and thoracic injuries.
Comparison of Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) Levels Between Preeclamptic and Normotensive Pregnancies
Edgar Anthony Petra Sihite, Johny Marpaung, Deri Edianto, Mohd. Rhiza Tala, Edwin Martin Asroel, Hilma Putri Lubis
Abstract: Background: Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy that significantly contributes to maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Its pathogenesis is closely associated with angiogenic imbalance, particularly decreased levels of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) due to increased anti-angiogenic factors such as soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1), leading to systemic endothelial dysfunction. Objective: To compare serum VEGF levels between pregnant women with preeclampsia and normotensive pregnancies and to evaluate the diagnostic performance of VEGF as a predictor of preeclampsia. Methods: This analytical observational study with a case-control design included 40 subjects (20 preeclampsia and 20 normotensive pregnancies) at H. Adam Malik General Hospital and affiliated centers. Serum VEGF levels were measured using ELISA. Statistical analysis was performed using the Mann–Whitney test and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis (p

Abstract: Background: Premature Rupture of Membranes (PROM) increases maternal and neonatal morbidity through inflammatory mechanisms. Hematological markers such as leukocyte count and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) may serve as cost-effective inflammatory indicators. Objective: To compare leukocyte levels and NLR values between pregnancies with PROM and normal pregnancies. Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 72 subjects (36 PROM, 36 normal pregnancies) at Adam Malik General Hospital and affiliated centers. Complete blood count data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests (p
Capital Adequacy and Asset Quality of Deposit-Taking Microfinance Banks in Kenya
Grace Jane Andahwa Ochami, Joshua Matanda, Ibrahim Tirimba Ondabu
Abstract: The effect of capital adequacy on the asset quality of deposit-taking microfinance banks in Kenya is the central focus of this research. The study's central premise was based on the agency, moral hazard, and institutional theories. The study's target population was 14 deposit-taking microfinance banks in Kenya, with each bank's panel data collected from their audited reports for the years 2019 to 2023. Longitudinal design was the most ideal given the balanced panel data of the banks. Panel data regression was used to determine the causality between the predictor and response variables. The study findings reveal that capital adequacy positively influenced the asset quality of the DTM banks studied (B = 2.587). The association was also significant (p = 0.002 < 0.05). This implied that as MFBs accumulated more capital, the level or amount of NPLs decreased, thus leading to an improvement in their asset quality.

Joseph Owino Gilo, Dr. Fred N.Ikanda
Abstract: Globally, policing reforms have increasingly sought to shift law enforcement from coercive, force-oriented models toward citizen-centered, service-oriented approaches in order to improve accountability, legitimacy, and public trust. In Kenya, this reform agenda intensified after the 2007–2008 post-election violence and culminated in the constitutional and legal transition from the Kenya Police Force to the National Police Service.

Quantum Neural Networks: Evolution of Artificial Neural Networks in Quantum Domain
Ashwani Kumar, Dr. Manu Pratap Singh
Abstract: Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) represent a fascinating intersection of Quantum Computing and Artificial Neural Networks. Researchers explored combining quantum computing and neural networks in the 1990s and early 2000s. Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) combine principles from quantum computing and artificial neural networks to potentially revolutionize machine learning. QNNs are neural networks that utilize quantum computing principles, such as superposition, entanglement, and quantum parallelism, to process and transform information. With Quantum Superposition QNNs can represent complex probability distributions, allowing for more nuanced modeling of uncertainty. While with Quantum Entanglement, QNNs can capture complex correlations between inputs, enabling more accurate modeling of complex relationships. Apart of that Quantum Parallelism facilitates QNN to process multiple inputs simultaneously, potentially speeding up certain computations.
Thermodynamic Parametrisation of the Vertebrate Lifetime Cycle Invariant: Biological Proper Time, Allometric Mass-Cancellation, and Clade-Specific Predictions
Mesfin Asfaw Taye
Abstract: Warm-blooded vertebrates accumulate approximately N⋆ ≈ 109 cardiac cycles over a natural lifetime, a striking empirical regularity first quantified by Lindstedt and Calder yet lacking a physical interpretation. We propose that this invariance is consistent with a conserved thermo- dynamic budget, formulated here as the Principle of Biological Time Equivalence (PBTE).

Weligamage Dedunu Chandrananda Udeni Dias, Binduhewa Arosha Oshadie Wijewickrama, Tennakoon Mudiyanselage Indika Sujith Priyantha, Upul Wijenayake
Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated rapid global vaccination efforts, with healthcare workers (HCWs) being prioritized due to their frontline role. Understanding HCWs' perceptions and attitudes towards vaccination programmes is crucial for effective public health strategies, yet specific data from Sri Lanka remains limited. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted among a stratified random sample of 413 HCWs from three large hospitals in Sri Lanka. An interviewer-administered questionnaire, validated through expert review and a pilot study, was used to gather data on HCWs' perceptions, attitudes, expectations, concerns, and willingness to promote vaccination.
