Abstract: Far-side impacts, where occupants are positioned on the non-struck side of the vehicle, represent approximately 35% of all side impact injuries. This comprehensive review examines far-side airbag (FSAB) technology, analyzing impact physics, current architecture (seat-back and center-mounted systems), and performance evaluation methodologies. Statistical evidence demonstrates that far-side occupants face significant lateral excursion (475-575 mm without FSAB) and belt slip-off phenomena, leading to severe head and thoracic injuries.
