In urology clinical practice in a tropical country like Sri Lanka, a pattern of occupational distribution in patients presenting with ureteric coilc can be observed. As ureteric colic is a debilitating condition which can lead to serious complications thus identifying the risk factors is important. The occupation of an individual has a major impact on predisposing to urolithiasis such as low water intake, excessive perspiration and stress, thus some occupations are at higher risk. This research enrolled 191 patients diagnosed with ureteric colic. It concludes that outdoor workers such as army soldiers and manual laborers have a higher occurrence of urolithiasis compared to indoor workers.
