English writing is an important skill for students; however, many English majors at universities in Vietnam have problems in writing English. Therefore, the aim of the research is to seek solutions to enhance English writing performance for English majors through the use of portfolios. The specific objectives are to draw up a procedure for creating and assessing writing portfolios, to evaluate the impacts of portfolios on English majors’ writing performance, and to collect students’ and teachers’ feedback regarding the benefits and drawbacks of portfolios and possible solutions to enhance the effectiveness of portfolios.
