Abstract:
The paper makes an attempt to explain the aim of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs): to eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education to be achieved by 2015, with special emphasis on girls’ position. The Challenge of the Millennium Development Goals was to provide children with access to primary education either through formal or informal systems, and to reduce differences in enrolment, drop out rates and mainstream a gender perspective in the development process. Special measures needed to be adopted to eradicate discrimination at the primary and secondary stages, universalization of education and creation of a gender sensitive education system.
