Abstract:
Dry spells are a major triggering factor of drought phenomena with devastating climatic hazards in many areas of the earth. Dry spells increase the risk of drought occurrence and make the affected regions more vulnerable to food insecurity. Homa Bay County location is in the Lake Victoria Basin in Western region of Kenya. The study area is influenced by sub humid climatic condition hence frequent and prolonged dry spell that causes decline in the livestock production. This paper examines the mitigation strategies for dry spell impacts on livestock in Homa Bay County.
