Abstract: Introduction: Cancer patients require long-term venous access for frequent administration of chemotherapy, antibiotics, blood components and ocassionally total parenteral nutrition. Introduction of central venous catheters (CVCs) in the 1980s has revolutionized the quality of life of cancer patients. These devices helped with patient compliance and satisfaction by minimizing the need for repeated venipunctures and associated emotional trauma.
