Abstract:
Across the developing world, there are more people with mobile phones than with bank accounts (Portteous, D. 2007). In 2007, there were over 3.3 billion phone users, and close to 60% of the subscribers lived in the developing world (UNCTAD, 2007-2008). Thus, many entities with a global development focus have turned to the mobile phone as a potential platform for delivering financial services to the “unbanked”. It’s against this background that the researcher saw the need to pursue this study. The uptake of mobile phones in Kenya has been unprecedented. Of vital significance is the rapid absorption of mobile based banking services.
