Abstract:
This study examines the relationship between interest rates and the stock markets of ASEAN member countries over ten years, from January 2013 to December 2023. The results of the correlation study revealed that the Lao People Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore had positive coefficients, whereas Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam had negative ones. The Ordinary Least Squares estimate showed that only Lao PDR had statistically significant results, with interest rates predicting broader stock market performance. Both the One-Way Fixed Effects and Random Effects Regression yielded insignificant results, implying insufficient evidence to conclude that interest rates had a meaningful impact on stock market performance.
