Abstract: Illegal small-scale mining or, in plain language, galamsey has emerged as one of the most pressing environmental and human security issues facing Ghana with significant implications for the countrys climate diplomacy agenda. Aside from its immediate socio-economic drivers, illegal mining is also the primary driver of deforestation, water pollution, land degradation, and disruption of ecosystems that are critical to climate resilience.
