Abstract:
To meet the emerging credit needs of the self-employed production spectrum (with institutional credit as agent of change) and to create a socially responsible Commercial Banking system, the Government of India had acquired 14 large Scheduled Commercial Banks from the then Private Sector Banks in July 1969 and 6 more in April 1980 (nationalisation). These banks are known as Nationalised Banks.
