Abstract: Brownian motors and Brownian heat engines are paradigmatic nonequilibrium systems that convert thermal fluctuations into directed motion and useful work [1–4, 54]. They provide minimal yet physically informative models of energy conversion at microscopic scales, where thermal fluctuations cannot be neglected and may instead be used as a source of transport.
