Overseas Migration of Women and Socio-economic Impact on Women and Their Families in Rural Sri Lanka
      Dr. Shantha Wanninayake
Abstract: Foreign earning from overseas migrant workers is the second largest source of foreign earnings in Sri Lanka which has been the main factor that has driven the attention of the government towards the foreign employment migrants. However, there is a growing concern with the socio economic impact on women and their families. Hence, investigations are required on both economic and social impacts of female migration. Previous research on the impact of migration in Sri Lanka has focused mainly on economic impacts while the social impacts have attracted little research attention. Hence, this study seeks to contribute in this latter area.
