Abstract:
This paper investigates the differences between personality traits of an individual and its character in a particular virtual environment (World of Warcraft, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game).Furthermore, we suggest differences between real and character personality traits emerge to gain more social success. Our findings confirm divergences between personality traits of players and their characters, especially in Neuroticism. Results also show that the individuals' real Extraversion and their characters' Openness are the variables that predict social success.
