Abstract: Having a parent with a chronic illness (physical or mental) alters family routines, roles and emotional climate and is associated with risk for psychosocial difficulties in children. Conversely, when a child has a chronic illness the parental experience is characterized by elevated stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms.
