Study of Economic Development of Birhor, a Special Backward Tribe of Chhattisgarh State

Abstract: Birhor, as the name suggests, Bir means jungle and Hor means man. Birhors are people who live a solitary life in the mountains and forests. It is believed that monkeys never climb the trees that they touch. They are considered to be from the Proto-Australoid group on the basis of their physical structure. The total population of Birhor as per the year 2011 is 3104, in which the male population is 1,526 and the female population is 1,578. The sex ratio is 1,034.
