Abstract:
Pilgrimage as a form of journey provide an opportunity for the people to visit sacred places and is a feature common to more or less all societies. The land of Jammu is blessed with the holy stay of many great saints and spiritual souls. Mata Vaishno Devi being one of them is the most popular shrine located in the lap of Tirkuta Hills of Jammu region. Every year lacs of devotees from every nook and corner of the country as well as from different parts of the world pay the obeisance at shrine. The present work is an attempt to study the socio-economic impacts of pilgrimage tourism at Katra and its surrounding areas and also study the share of this pilgrimage centre in the state economy.
