Abstract:
Sex trafficking remains a pervasive and significant issue in the United States, affecting communities across all fifty states, with underage female youth being particularly vulnerable. Though much of the research has focused on urban environments, there remains a significant gap in understanding the extent of sex trafficking in rural areas. This literature review examines existing research on sex trafficking in rural communities, with a particular focus on underage female youth, Native American youth, and the unique challenges these populations face.
