Abstract:
Variation in the availability of nutrients in diet and departure of same from standard requirement had badly affected the health of school children of Gujars of Great Kashmir Himalayas. Eighty percent of the sample pre-school children were identified under various levels of malnutrition. Severe degree of malnutrition has been computed at a very low weight. Even average weight was less by three and half kg than the weight recommended by I.C.M.R. The present paper attempts to analyze not only the geographical distribution and assessment of magnitude of malnutrition as a health problem among preschool children but also attempts to identify the causes that are directly or indirectly responsible.
