Abstract:
Autism is a complex disorder of brain development characterized by a variable mixture of compared capacity for reciprocal socio-communicative interaction. A study in Malaysia shows that the community has bad perception towards autism. This study aims to assess the knowledge and attitude of community in Dengkil towards autism. A cross sectional study was done by using universal sampling. Respondents that fulfill the inclusion & exclusion criteria were interviewed with validated questionnaires and data were analyze using SPSS. Only 47.4% of the respondents have good knowledge on autism, however 94.9% have positive attitude towards autism. A long-term health intervention program (HIP) should be implemented so that the community could increase the knowledge of autismand spread their understandings to their family and friends.
