Abstract:
Activated carbon prepared from Andrographis paniculata leaves was employed as an adsorbent for the removal of cationic dye, Malachite green from an aqueous solution. Effect of pH, adsorbent dose, dye concentration, contact time and temperature on the removal of the dye was investigated. Equilibrium data were analyzed using Langmuir and Frendlich isotherm models. Kinetic studies were also made. The maximum removal was obtained for the adsorbent dose of 100mg at 10mg/l dye concentration at pH 5 and agitation speed of 120rpm. The result shows that Andrographis paniculata leaf could be employed as an effective low cost adsorbent for the removal of MG.
