Abstract:
The objective of this study is to identify association of GSTM1 and GSTT1 null gene polymorphisms with risk of cancer in defined populations in South India with histologically confirmed pre-malignant laryngeal lesions. Different parameters were taken into consideration and a demographic risk profile was defined as reported from a hospital-based cancer registry in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. 23 histologically confirmed pre-malignant laryngeal cancer tissue and blood samples were collected and analyzed for GSTM1 and GSTT1 null polymorphisms by PCR method. GSTT1 null polymorphism was found to be more associated with the risk of malignancy than GSTM1 null polymorphism in the study population.
